The sugar cane used for this is also grown on the island, in the very south. This gives it a slightly maritime toughness.
With a history spanning over 350 years, Toirs Rivieres is one of the leaders when it comes to rum. They specialize in making rum from sugar cane juice, i.e. Rhum Agricole.

Tasting

By using sugar cane that grows by the sea, the de L'ocean has a very maritime bouquet. These are clearly evident on the nose in very salty, mineral notes, which are complemented on the palate by sweet notes of sugar cane.
The aftertaste is rather unusual for a white rum. Here it is once again very complex, with long-lasting salty, iodine-containing notes.

Trois Rivieres Rhum VO Cuvee du Moulin 0.7L 40% Plantation from 1660 One of the oldest sugar cane plantations in Martinique is the 'Trois Rivières' plantation. It was founded in 1660 by Nicolas Fouquet and is still in operation today. The adjacent distillery now produces rum for three brands: La Mauny, Rhum Duquense and Trois Rivieres. To pay homage to the old plantation, the distillery developed the Cuvee du Moulin. Like all Agricole Rhum products, this is not made from molasses, but from the fresh juice of the sugar cane. This gives it a special character right from the start, which is often described as floral and sweet. The maturation in the barrel creates additional aromas of fine vanilla and dark fruits.

Trois Rivieres Pave Ambre Rum 0.5L 40% The Trois Rivieres distillery on Martinique, which has existed since the 17th century, is known for its extremely high-quality Rum Agricole. It is a typical agricultural rum and only accounts for around 5% of total rum production. In contrast to conventional rum, Rum Agricole is made from fresh sugar cane juice and not from molasses. The aroma of the fresh juice is the icing on the cake, if you will, which makes the special taste. One of these quality products is the 'Pave Ambre Rum', which was stored for between 12 and 18 months in special French oak barrels. The storage gave the rum a slightly orange color, the aroma is subtly sweet with floral notes. It is surprisingly soft on the palate, which speaks for its young age. Notes of spices are mixed in, as is caramel and an aroma reminiscent of toasted white bread.
