Until the end of the 19th century, the Dominican Republic was a rather pre-industrial agricultural economy, which was then incorporated into the American sugar empire. Almost the entire economy was controlled by the gigantic sugar companies and since the Dominican Republic, as an independent country, did not benefit from tax exemptions, exports suffered and with it the popularity of the excellent rum. For a long time, rum from the Dominican Republic was only drunk locally and is only slowly reaching the international market on a larger scale.

The rum Presidente Marti 23 years is a tribute to the legendary Cuban freedom fighter José Julián Martí Pérez, who immortalized himself in the history books with his fight against the Spanish colonial power.

To produce the Presidente Marti 23 year old rum, high-quality individual distillates of different ages are matured using the Solera process known from Spanish sherry production and then blended together.

This creates a very expressive rum that impresses with its fine sweetness, spiciness and nuances of wood and vanilla. The aftertaste is, as you would expect from a rum of this class, surprisingly long and makes the Presidente Marti 23 year old the ideal rum to drink neat.
