THE TRUE SPIRIT OF LAPHROAIG

The 'Enduring Spirit' marks the culmination of our Ian Hunter range, presenting collector's editions of matured single malts to celebrate and honour a significant man in Laphroaig's history and to recognise his lasting impact. This final release pays tribute to the legacy of the last owner and director of the Laphroaig distillery from the Johnston family. This is an extremely rare whisky from a highly limited series - to own it is to be part of our history and tradition. In the context of the long tradition of Islay and its people, Ian Hunter's remarkable vision ensured the growth of Laphroaig. Thanks to his dedication and passion, you can now enjoy a Scottish whisky with a truly exceptional taste that sets it apart from others. After his travels to the USA, Ian began using ex-bourbon barrels made of American oak for the maturation process. He also set up malting sheds that are still used today. His vision and influence contribute significantly to the distinctive taste of Laphroaig whisky and continue to shape the distillery's processes and techniques. Each generation of the distillery team has been inspired by the infrastructure he introduced and the legacy he left behind. The fifth and final part of this well-known series is a 34-year-old single malt with fascinating aromas: the classic Laphroaig peat combines with fruity blueberry accents and sweet, delicious butterscotch. This blend of classic and modern flavors illustrates Ian Hunter's unique vision for Laphroaig whisky. A legacy that undoubtedly lives on in this whisky.

One of these eight is the Laphroaig distillery. Alongside the Bowmore distillery, these two are the only ones on the island that still produce some of the malt needed to make whisky themselves. This allows the distilleries to better influence the roasting with peat and create another, very unique character. Ian Hunter Ian Hunter was the last heir to the founding Johnston family, who once founded the Laphroaig brand. From 1908-1944, Hunter had the honor of successfully leading the family business. To honor him, the series 'The Ian Hunter' - Story Book Series was developed. It is a fifteen-part series of rare single malt bottlings, each of which represents a special chapter in Ian Hunter's life. Story Book 3 is a whisky distilled in 1987. It represents Hunter's influence and is the only whisky he ever helped to develop. It matured in refilled ex-bourbon barrels for a good 33 years and is bottled at 49.9% ABV.
