Barbados, one of the easternmost islands in the Caribbean, impresses with rums with strong character that are characterized by their geological uniqueness. In contrast to the volcanic origins of its neighbors, Barbados was formed from a coral reef, which means that the soil consists mainly of chemically advantageous limestone. Sugar cane cultivation for sugar production began as early as 1640, and the molasses residue left over from this process is still distilled into wonderful rum today. The Doorlys 12YO Rum is represented by RL Seal, one of the oldest family businesses on the island, which is passionately dedicated to liquid treasures. Production takes place in the Foursquare distillery in the south of the country, which is located on the site of a sugar factory founded in the 17th century and is one of the few distilleries still active on the island, which gives its rums a certain rarity. For this rum, the dark, viscous molasses is fermented with water and yeast to form a usable mash. After about a week of fermentation, the mash is distilled into young, white rum and then stored for twelve years in former bourbon barrels. The island's warm, tropical climate helps to refine and develop the taste. The weather causes the rum to age more quickly, and each year it becomes more complex and full of character.
After 12 years, heavy rums from pot still and column still distillation processes are combined to create this blend. The result is a distillate that has the typical characteristics of a rum from Barbados: fruity, soft and slightly smoky. The Doorly's 12 year old is a mild rum with barely noticeable sweetness, but all the more fruity and spicy. Various tropical fruits, both fresh and dried, are recognizable and harmonize with slightly smoky tobacco leaves and the mature wood notes of the barrel storage.

Doorlys Rum 14 Years 0.7L 48% Rum from Barbados Doorlys Rum's originally come from the house of Martin Doorly, which operated as an independent bottler until 1993. In 1993, however, it was taken over by RL Seale and today Doorlys Rum is produced in the Foursquare distillery, which can be found on the island of Barbados. The Doorlys 14 Years is the oldest rum in the entire Doorly Rum series and is matured in former bourbon barrels. It is bottled at 48% vol. In terms of taste, the 14-year-old rum is very rich with subtle fruit and oak aromas. Notes of ripe apples and various other tropical fruits complement the taste. The finish is long-lasting with very balanced sweet and fruity notes. To reflect the rarity and beauty of Doorlys rums, a species of macaw is depicted on each bottle label. The Doorlys 14 year old in particular features a blue-throated macaw, of which there are only around 250-300 animals left living in the wild in their native lowland region of Bolivia.
