History

Cachaça is probably the most famous national spirit in Brazil and dominates the spirits market throughout South America. The sugar cane distillate has been known since the end of the 17th century. Many people also refer to cachaça as rum. However, there are significant differences in the production process between the two products. Green sugar cane is used for cachaça, whereas molasses, i.e. residues from sugar production, is used in rum production. When making cachaça, the green sugar cane is mashed, fermented and then distilled. The aim is to preserve the fruity, tart-sweet taste. Many lower quality spirits are bottled or tanked directly after the distillation process. High-quality cachaça is given the opportunity to develop its aroma further after distillation by allowing the sugar cane spirit to mature in barrels. This includes the Armazem Vieira Porto Nossa Senhora do Desterro, which matures in Grápia and Ariribá wooden barrels.

This cachaça is also known as 'Armazira Vieira Tradicional', as it is the first cachaça to be bottled in Armazem Vieira since 1985.
Worldwide, cachaça is the basic ingredient for a good caipirinha, alongside brown cane sugar and lime.

Armazem Vieira Esmeralda Cachaca 0.7L 40% The story of Armazem Vieira and Cachaca What is Cachaça? You often hear this question when it comes to preparing a Caipirinha at parties. You often hear that Cachaça is a rum, which is not entirely correct. While rum is usually made from sugar cane molasses, i.e. the thickened juice of sugar cane, Cachaça is based on fresh sugar cane juice that is fermented and distilled. The history of Cachaça goes back to 1492, when Christopher Columbus discovered America. He took sugar cane plants from the island of Madeira with him on his journey, which were then planted in the Caribbean and quickly spread to South America. The first record of distilled sugar cane dates back to 1657, when the Massachusetts Court made the sale of "strong liquor", so-called "rumme", a criminal offence.Nevertheless, from this point onwards the triumph of spirits distilled from sugar cane could no longer be stopped and their production spread throughout the Caribbean and South America, with the production of cachaça being largely concentrated in Brazil. The history of the Armazem Vieira distillery is of course not as long as that of cachaça itself, but can be traced back to 1840. At that time, the building that now houses the distillery was founded and served as a trading post for sailors. Cachaça and rum were also traded, of course. So that the traders knew what they were buying, cachaça was also served on site for tasting. Based on this history, the building was renovated from 1983 to 1985 and reopened as a pub called Armazem Vieira. In order to be able to produce the popular cachaça for the Armazem Vieira Pub itself, a distillery was also built into the building. Armazem Vieira Cachaça has been produced there since 1985 and is offered together with beer and local food in the Armazem Vieira Pub, which is very popular with locals and tourists. The production of Armazem Vieira Esmeralda Cachaça Over the course of four years, the Armazem Vieira Esmeralda Cachaça, distilled in copper alembic stills, matures first in barrels made of Grápia wood, and then in barrels made of Ariribá wood to gain further facets. The result of this procedure is a wealth of balanced flavor that is actually only expected from distillates that have been matured for at least twice as long. Together with the subtly dry note of the wood, the light hint of sugar cane harmonizes in an unforgettable way in the Armazem Vieira Esmeralda Cachaça. The taste of the Armazem Vieira Esmeralda Cachaça Whether at room temperature with seafood or ice-cold as a digestif, in a Caipirinha or in an international cocktail, the Armazem Vieira Esmeralda Cachaca always leaves an impression that is perceived as refreshing. The nose of the Armazem Vieira Esmeralda Cachaça already shows these refreshing notes without denying that it was stored in oak barrels. On the palate, the Armazem Vieira Esmeralda Cachaça then has a diverse range of aromas, which are mainly reminiscent of freshly pressed sugar cane. The aftertaste of the Armazem Vieira Esmeralda Cachaça is enormously long for such a light spirit and has nuances of vanilla. The Armazem Vieira Esmeralda Cachaça is without question one of the most authentic cachaças currently available on the market.
