El Dorado Rum 12 Years 0.7L 40% Guyanese Rum El Dorado Rum 12 Years comes from the South American state of Guyana, which borders Brazil, Suriname and Venezuela as well as the Atlantic. Although Guyana only has a population of around 750,000, the small country can look back on an eventful history in the production of rum. In the heyday of rum production, almost every sugar cane plantation in the country had its own distillery. Of the 200-300 distilleries that once existed, only one remains. But how did the once flourishing industry decline so sharply? To understand this, we need to take a look at the history of the country. The history of rum from Guyana The history of Guyanese rum is closely linked to that of the British Navy. In the 18th century, the three colonies of Demerara, Essequibo and Berbice in Guyana were owned by the Dutch crown. After a slave revolt in 1763, however, their ownership changed hands between the French, Dutch and British. The British were the ones who built the first sugar cane plantations to produce spirits. They needed the liquor for their ship crews. As it was impossible to keep drinking water sterile on long crossings at the time, each sailor was given a ration of 0.5 liters of rum per day to make their water drinkable. The demand was so enormous that more and more plantations and distilleries were built in Guyana, eventually reaching the aforementioned number of 200-300 distilleries. However, due to improved hygiene conditions and microbiological findings, rum on board ships became increasingly pointless and daily rations were steadily reduced. After a long period of being purely traditional, the last rum was finally served on board British ships on July 31, 1970, the so-called Black Tot Day. The ban on rum on board ships also sealed the fate of the distilleries and the last remaining distilleries gradually closed their doors. Only Demerara Distillers remained. However, this distillery is no ordinary one, as many famous stills from the closed distilleries were collected there. These old pot stills and continuous stills are not museum-like, but are still in operation, allowing Demerara Distillers to produce a variety of different rum styles and keep the myth of Guyanese rum alive. El Dorado Rum 12 Years The El Dorado 12 is probably the best-known rum from Demerara Distillers. It was the first rum that company boss Yesu Persaud brought to market. He had the vision early on to create a rum that stood out from the often overwhelmingly heavy style of former Demerara rums. He succeeded in doing this with the El Dorado, which, in addition to the heavy molasses tones, also has fine fruity aromas of orange and pineapple. El Dorado Rum 12 Years is an outstanding rum that is a real treat both neat and in cocktails and long drinks. Absolute recommendation!

This rum has an ester content of 150 to 250 grams per hectoliter of pure alcohol, which corresponds to the VRW mark of the former Vale Royal Distillery. VRW stands for Vale Royal Wedderburn. The term "Wedderburn" is one of 4 Jamaican ester brands. The rum was aged for 18 years in an oak barrel in a tropical climate. A total of 320 bottles could be filled from the oak barrel at a cask strength of 60 percent. No additives were used.

This is the first whiskey distillery in Donegal in over 175 years. The aim of the distillery is to bring the authenticity of the landscape and the taste of whiskey from before the industrial revolution back to life. Harmonious blend It is often said that less is more. However, this is absolutely not the case with The Midnight Blend from Silkie. Despite the blending of 35%, drippy, triple distilled single malt and four different triple distilled single malts that were also stored in different barrels such as Sherry Cask, Oloroso Cask or Virgin Oak barrels, they managed to create a very rich but nevertheless harmonious whisky. On the grounds of a well-preserved farm, the walls of the distillery were built from the stones of the nearby castle ruins 'Camus'. It was important to the founders of the distillery to incorporate as much history as possible into the construction of the distillery. This includes an old mill wheel, which has been restored and retrofitted and is now operated with the cooling water from the distillery. The young distillers were also trained by experienced distillers who passed on their centuries-old knowledge to the next generation. The Legacy Series This series is intended to reflect the distillery's journey from 2017 to its coming of age in 2028. As you might expect, all bottlings in the series are strictly limited, Allt Gleann to around 4,800 bottles. Compared to its predecessor, the Allt Gleann has already improved considerably in terms of peat aromas. It is a very characterful whisky with depth and complexity. It is thanks to him that the distillery got electricity and motorized cars and created the whisky with its unmistakable character. His grandson Desmond inherited his courage and determination and revolutionized whisky production by introducing blended whisky. The power of three Since the beginning, this special number has been indispensable. This refers to three points in the production process that cannot be done without: - the use of three types of grain - triple distillation And - the marriage of three different types of whisky: single malt, grain whisky and single pot still whisky. Tullamore Dew Phoenix Limited Edition What is also special is that Tullamore Dew Phoenix is bottled at 55% ABV. Dew Phoenix is intended to commemorate a terrible disaster and the resulting solidarity of the community of Tullamore. In 1785 there was a devastating hot air balloon crash which started a fire that destroyed the entire town. What the fire could not destroy: the solidarity and courage of the residents. They rebuilt the town completely. Since this disaster, a phoenix has appeared on the town's coat of arms as a constant reminder of this. The reconstruction of the city led to the founding of the Tullamore DEW distillery in 1829, and so this number in the name stands for the year the distillery was founded. Tasting notes On the nose, typical malt notes that you would expect from Tullamore. But also vanilla and toffee notes that go perfectly with roasted wood and sherry. The higher alcohol content leaves a spicy pot still taste on the palate. If you add a little water, sweet toffee and floral notes appear that combine with oak tannins. Due to the maturation in Oloroso sherry casks, the whisky has a distinctive aroma: spicy and with a slight sweetness, it hits the nail on the head. Caramel notes and fine sherry tones characterize the taste.

This route was of great importance for Havana Rum, as it secured the import of French red wine barrels, which were needed in Havana to refine the rum. The same route also secured the trade in rum to Europe. Pacto Navio Rum This rum matures after an unspecified period of time, first in former bourbon barrels, and then for a further three months in European oak barrels in which the French red wine described above was previously stored. In addition to a golden-brown color, the storage in the red wine barrels gave the rum sweet and fruity notes. Vanilla, toffee, molasses and honey characterize the palate. Also accompanied by oak notes and tobacco as well as other spices. Finally, a very long, creamy finish also presents itself with vanilla, toffee and dried fruit.

The name is an allusion to this storage location, because translated it means something like 'light that shines through the trees'. In this old garden, the whisky is stored partly in bourbon and partly in sherry casks. This is married in a ratio of 9:1. In terms of taste, this new single malt whisky has a lot to offer. On the nose, it is initially fruity notes such as peach, banana and pear that pamper the senses. Honey and a hint of vanilla are also present. If you now take a small sip, an equally fruity bouquet develops. Here, however, there are other fruits that you can recognize. There are orange and apple, as well as peach with a hint of vanilla. Something reminiscent of tea hangs in the background. The finish is medium-long, with further notes, this time of a more spicy character.

Once there, he was able to enjoy the alcohol produced from sugar cane, which enchanted him straight away. Driven by the desire to bring this product to Europe and sell it there, he founded the company 'Compagnie Rhumière de Bâle' - CORUBA for short - in 1889. Since then, the Jamaican distillery Wray & Nephews produces the rum on the island before it is transported to Switzerland and blended. The second bottling from the Millenium Edition is also initially stored for 18 years in oak barrels in Jamaica, and the Vintage 2000 Pedro Ximenez Millenium Edition is then stored in selected Pedro Ximenez barrels from Gonzalez Byass after being transported to Switzerland. This creates a complex aroma, with sweet and fruity notes on both the nose and the palate. Vanilla, dates and other dried fruits are just some of the clearly recognizable aromas. In the finish, these are accompanied by warming spicy notes as well as wood and leather notes.

When he came to Jamaica, he discovered the country's typical spirit, rum. He was so enthusiastic that he wanted to introduce it to the whole world, but especially to his fellow countrymen, and so in 1889 he founded the 'Compagnie Rhumière De Bâle' in Switzerland. From this very long and difficult to remember name was derived the abbreviation CORUBA, by which the rum is known today. Since 1962, Wray & Nephews distillery in Jamaica is responsible for Coruba Rum, but the actual blending has always taken place in Basel, Switzerland, even today. Vintage 2000 Millenium Edition Matusalem Oloroso Rum After an initial maturation in oak barrels on the island of Jamaica, the Edition Matusalem from the Millennium Edition is additionally stored in Oloroso sherry barrels from Gonzalez Byass under European climatic conditions in Switzerland. The aroma can be described as classic with notes of vanilla, warming spices and dried fruits.
