Windspiel Barrel Aged Potato Vodka 0.5L 42% History and production of Windspiel Barrel Aged Potato Vodka: The Windspiel factory is fully committed to producing the highest quality spirits. Located in the fertile Volcanic Eifel, gin and vodka have been produced there in small quantities and with great effort by hand since 2008. What's special about it? The basic ingredient is potatoes, not grain. The Windspiel Barrel Aged Potato Vodka is made from the particularly starchy Pirol potato variety. Grown on the Weilerhof in the Volcanic Eifel, the tubers are harvested in autumn and then processed on site. First, the potatoes must be washed and freed of soil. This is followed by the crushing, which is necessary to make the starch vulnerable. Heated in a large pot, the starch swells and releases the fermentable sugar. After adding a specially bred yeast, fermentation begins. The "potato beer" is then distilled three times. This makes the potato distillate incomparably mild and gentle, without driving away the fine potato note. The Windspiel Barrel Aged Potato Vodka is then stored in exclusive ash barrels, which give the distillate additional spicy wood, vanilla and caramel notes. Bottled with 42% alcohol by volume, the Windspiel Barrel Aged Potato Vodka: does not require filtration due to its high quality. Tasting the Windspiel Barrel Aged Potato Vodka: On the nose, the Windspiel Barrel Aged Potato Vodka shows a really impressive clarity. Not the slightest alcoholic sting can be detected. The bouquet reveals well-dosed aromas of vanilla and caramel, which are surrounded by the unique potato note. The Windspiel Barrel Aged Potato Vodka is then completely convincing on the tongue. An indescribable mildness and gentleness settles on the taste buds. The finest notes of vanilla, caramel and butter biscuits dance on the tip of the tongue. In the middle third, the potato becomes noticeably more present and ensures an incomparable taste experience. In the finish, the Windspiel Barrel Aged Potato Vodka becomes increasingly spicier. The ash wood comes through clearly and leaves a wonderful impression that lasts for a long time. Overall, the Windspiel Barrel Aged Potato Vodka is a truly exceptional distillate. The potato as a basic ingredient is perceptible at all times and wonderfully integrated into the taste. The Windspiel Barrel Aged Potato Vodka is without question a vodka for neat enjoyment.
Windspiel Premium Dry Gin Reserve, 0.5L 49.3% History and production of Windspiel Premium Dry Gin Reserve: Windspiel is fully committed to sustainable production. There are no industrial machines, everything is controlled, processed and filled by hand. Potatoes are grown, tended and cared for on the company's own farm in the Vulkaneifel. These form the basic ingredient for the Windspiel Premium Dry Gin Reserve and the company's own potato vodka. In addition, a special energy plant (called miscanthus) is cultivated, which is even used to heat the production facility. The name Windspiel was deliberately chosen for the factory and goes back to Frederick the Great, King of Prussia. He was not only a proven greyhound fan, but also a great friend and supporter of the potato. With his potato order he wanted to teach his subjects about growing the tuber and thus avoid future famines. The name now creates a link to the company's own potato spirits. To get the most flavour out of the potatoes harvested in autumn, they are first cleaned and freed from the fertile volcanic soil. After a subsequent quality control, the potatoes are chopped and water is added. The potato mash is heated to break down the starch contained in the potatoes. This is the only way the yeast added after cooling can convert the sugar into alcohol and CO2. After a few days the mash has fermented and the "potato beer" can be distilled. A total of three distillation processes make the spirit ever finer and more flavourful. At the same time, different botanicals, including juniper berries, coriander, lemon peel, lavender, ginger and cinnamon, are macerated in alcohol. This causes them to release their aroma bit by bit. Only when the essences have fully developed are they mixed with the potato brandy. Finally, the Windspiel Premium Dry Gin Reserve is stored in selected oak barrels, which round off the aroma and ensure a complex, full-bodied taste. Tasting the Windspiel Premium Dry Gin Reserve: The Windspiel Premium Dry Gin Reserve has a light golden, sparkling color. The aroma is clearly characterized by juniper berries, lemons and vanilla. This is accompanied by floral notes of lavender, a fine oak spice and the unmistakable smell of potatoes. The Windspiel Premium Dry Gin Reserve is very harmonious and finely balanced on the nose. Every single nuance comes into its own and creates a unique play of aromas. The 49.3% vol. storms forward powerfully on the tongue. Again, juniper and lemons are noticeable first. The potato note is wonderfully integrated and creates a unique mouthfeel. In the middle third, a vanilla sweetness appears, which interacts with the spicy oak. The oak continues into the finish and remains in the mouth for a long time. In conclusion, it can be said that storing the Windspiel Premium Dry Gin Reserve was completely worthwhile. The harmonious combination of fruity-floral gin and sweet barrel aromas is as unique as it is complex. This means that the Windspiel Premium Dry Gin Reserve enjoys our unconditional recommendation.
Windspiel Barrel Aged Potato Vodka Miniature 0.04L 42% Potato Vodka It is worth mentioning at the beginning that this vodka was dedicated to Fridericus Rex, the discoverer of the potato in Germany with a love for Windspiel dogs. The Windspiel Manufactory is otherwise known for a fine potato base alcohol, which is used equally for (almost) all of the company's spirits. This is different with Windspiel Potato Vodka. In the 2016 edition, only particularly starchy potatoes of the Pirol variety from the last harvest were used. Master distiller Holger first makes the so-called raw spirit from these potatoes. In order to get a particularly mild, yet characteristic vodka, Holger enlisted the help of master distiller Dr. Franz Eckert. So here too, three fine spirits are actually distilled with a final distillation, but using a very special, secret process. The vodka also comes without chemical aids, because it is precisely this secret process that makes complex filtration unnecessary. Finally, the alcohol is stored in ash barrels for a few months. This gives the Barrel Aged Potato Vodka a very unique note: In addition to the mild but expressive potato notes, the taste also includes delicate caramel wood notes.
