VAT 69 - A great whisky classic

The Scotch Whisky Vat 69 is as well known as Johnnie Walker, J & B or Black & White. In recent years, the popularity of the Vat 69 Blended Whisky has increased enormously thanks to the TV series "Band of Brothers", but even before that, it was on everyone's lips, literally.

The Vat 69 is manufactured in the Scottish capital Edinburgh by the William Sanderson company. The company was founded in Leith in 1863 and was one of the first to offer whisky in bottles. Until then, it was common for pubs and hotels to buy whisky by the barrel and then resell it by the glass. The original shape of the bottle was based on a port wine bottle, as these were particularly robust.

William Sanderson began working in the wine and spirits industry at the tender age of 13. At the age of 24, he opened his own business, which his son William Mark Sanderson also joined. Together, the two decided to bring a new blended scotch onto the market and started various barrels, which they tasted together with fellow blenders and friends. The participants chose the barrel with the number 69 - VAT 69 - by a large majority. Not only was a great new blended whisky born, but the right name was also found.

The Vat 69 Blended Whisky quickly made a name for itself and was taken by Ernest Henry Shackleton on his famous Antarctic expeditions in 1914 and 1921.

The taste of the VAT 69 Blended Scotch Whisky

The Vat 69 is a fruity, light and creamy blend. On the nose, the blended whisky has fine fruity but also spicy aromas. On the palate, the Vat 69 is also spicy and has a fine malt sweetness. The rather short aftertaste reveals aromas of apple, malt and caramel. A great everyday whisky!

Black & White Blended Scotch Whisky 1.0L 40% About Black & White Blended Scotch Whisky Black & White Blended Scotch Whisky is one of the great old Blended Scotch brands and one of the most successful whisky bottlings in the world. Black & White Whisky was founded almost 200 years ago by the company Buchanan & Co Ltd, founded by James Buchanan. Black & White was initially marketed as "The Buchanan Blend" and later renamed "House of Commons" because Buchanan managed to sign a contract with the House of Commons. However, as his customers only ever ordered "Black & White" because of the black and white label, the whisky also bore this name from then on. The idea for the famous terriers, a black Scottish Terrier and a white West Highland White Terrier, also came from the founder himself. Black & White Blended Scotch Whisky now belongs to the international drinks group Diageo and is sold in numerous countries around the world. The production of Black & White Blended Scotch Whisky Like all blended Scotch whisky, Black & White Blended Scotch Whisky is made up of numerous grain and malt whiskies. It is difficult to find out the exact composition, but it is known that malts from Glentauchers and Dalwhinnie were used in the past. Since Dalwhinnie now belongs to Diageo, it is likely that this malt whisky is still used to make Black & White Blended Scotch Whisky. The taste of Black & White Blended Scotch Whisky On the nose, Black & White Blended Scotch Whisky is floral and almost playful. On the palate, the Black & White Blended Scotch Whisky is a little stronger with a lovely malty sweetness and hints of oak and caramel. The aftertaste of the Black & White Blended Scotch Whisky is not particularly long, but it is certainly pleasant. A blended whisky that you should try at least once in your life!

Bells Original Scotch Whisky, 1 L, 40% The history of Bells Whisky The history of Bells Whisky begins in 1840. At that time, Arthur Bell, the founder of Arthur Bell & Sons, joined the spirits and wine business of his friend Thomas Sandeman in Perth. Thomas Sandeman was related to the well-known port wine dynasty Sandeman and accordingly had good contacts in the industry. After eleven successful years at Sandeman's side, Bell then went into business for himself and expanded quickly. After another decade, Bell was finally the first whisky dealer to open a shop in London. Arthur Bell quickly established himself there and established a global distribution network. In addition to trading, Arthur Bell also specifically promoted the product whisky. For example, he was the first whisky dealer to campaign for binding quality standards and the introduction of standardized bottle sizes. However, it was his sons who brought the first whisky with the name "Bell's Whisky" onto the market at the beginning of the 20th century. Arthur Bell's sons were also responsible for taking over several whisky distilleries and thus laid the foundation for the company Arthur Bell & Sons, which is still successful today. Bell's Original Scotch Whisky Bell's Original Scotch Whisky is one of the most successful standard blends in the world. Bell's Original Scotch Whisky probably contains a fairly high proportion of malt whiskies from the company's own distilleries Pittyvaich, Inchgower, Dufftown and Blair Athol. Bell's Original Scotch Whisky became particularly well-known through intensive TV marketing and the lavishly designed Bell's Decanters. These bell-shaped ceramic decanters are issued on special occasions, e.g. the Queen's jubilee, and are extremely popular with collectors. They have the advantage of not only being very light, but also shatterproof. A shatterproof bottle is a great advantage, especially for standard blends such as Bells Original Scotch Whisky, which you don't always drink in fancy hotel bars. The taste of Bells Original Scotch Whisky On the nose, Bells Original Scotch Whisky has gently malty aromas and a light peppery note. The palate of Bells Original Scotch Whisky is characterized by heather notes and a little caramel. The aftertaste of Bells Original Scotch Whisky is medium-length and relatively spicy. Bells Original Scotch Whisky is and remains a classic and loses none of its charm!
