The history of Glenrothes

Glenrothes is a Scottish malt whisky distillery located in Speyside. The Glenrothes Distillery was founded in 1878 by the company James Stuart & Co. As James Stuart & Co. could not complete the construction, the three entrepreneurs Robert Dick, John Cruickshank and William Grant founded the company William Grant & Co. and finally completed the construction of Glenrothes a year later. After some restructuring measures, William Grant & Co. became part of the Highland Distillers Group Ltd., which still owns the Glenrothes distillery today.

Glenrothes' malt whiskies have always been very popular and are regularly voted into the top 10 best single malts by Scottish master blenders. While a large proportion of Glenrothes' whiskeys are used for the two blends Famous Grouse and Cutty Sark, part of the production is also offered as single malts. A large proportion of the single malts on offer are brought to market as vintage bottlings.

With a total of five wash stills and five spirit stills, Glenrothes produces 5,600,000 litres of fresh distillate every year and is therefore on a par with the great single malts from Scotland in terms of volume.

The Glenrothes Elders Reserve
The Glenrothes Elders Reserve is a tribute to the elders of the community, as they are the pillars of society. The individual single malt whiskeys for the Elders Reserve matured for at least 18 years in equal parts American oak and Spanish oak barrels. On the nose, the copper-coloured whiskey is very spicy with notes of pepper, oak and coffee. On the palate, the Elder Reserve is extremely complex and shows light nuances of dried fruit, cocoa and vanilla. The aftertaste is, as you would expect from a single malt of this age, extremely long-lasting and powerful. A highly recommended single malt whisky from Glenrothes!

The Glenrothes Bourbon Cask Reserve 0.7L 40% Speyside Distillery Glenrothes, a Scottish malt distillery, is located in the 'Valley of the Rothes' (which is also what the company name means) between Craigella and Elgin in Speyside. It was founded in 1879. At that time, the distillery was founded by William Grant & Co., who is not to be confused with the founder of Glenfiddich. In the years after its founding, there were a few turbulent years for the whisky distillery. It was often hit by one fire or another and once burned down completely. However, these setbacks did not hold the company back and the distillery was continually rebuilt. It was worth it: The distillery's generally light whisky with its fine bouquet of berries, other fruits and carefully selected spices is among the best in all of Scotland. Here, whisky is divided into categories by master blenders. In this classification, the malt from Glenrothes is now among the top six and is therefore doing really well in the whisky business. Bourbon Cask Reserve This new release 'Bourbon Cask' is also known to experts as 'Alba Reserve'. However, in order to better emphasize the name of the type of cask used, it was renamed 'Bourbon Cask' and so it fits better into the cask series, which includes a sherry and a peated cask. Tasting Notes The aroma is floral and fresh with hints of vanilla and a few exotic notes. It is stored in ex-bourbon barrels made of American white oak, which primarily shape the taste profile. On the palate, as is well known, a very soft and light whisky, with a strong emphasis on vanilla. The aromas are accompanied by other fruit components of red berries. The finish is medium-long, but as expected, very soft and creamy with sweet notes
