Scapa is a Scottish malt distillery and is located a good two kilometers south of the second Orkney distillery, Highland Park.
Founded in 1885 by Macfarlane and Townsed, the company not only stood in its own way for a long time because it did not see enough opportunities, it was also in the shadow of its neighboring company, Highland Park. It has been owned by Hiram Walker since 1954, and is now owned by the Chivas brothers (Pernod Ricard).
If you compare the distillery with Highland Park, everyone would say it is more or less a functional building, which is particularly evident in the pagodas and floor maltings. Like other distilleries, Scapa was also affected by the fact that it had to close down operations for a while, but was not sold like others. It was last closed in 2004. So it has only been a few years since people have been able to enjoy the finest single malt whisky again, of which only around 360,000 litres are produced here each year. This includes Scapa Skiren.
The Scapa distillery is probably not one of the most common names that is widely known, but you should definitely give this excellent whisky a chance. Scapa only uses unpeated malt to make the whisky, as the water from Lingro Brun already contains a lot of peat.

Scapa Skiren Single Malt WHisky

It matures in American first fill oak barrels. The aroma is fresh, characterized by clementines and heather honey. In terms of taste, Scapa Skiren also offers a rather fruity taste experience. Fresh ginger adds a little spice. There is also a fine aroma of baked apples. Ground nuts and a little aniseed add a delicate, bitter aftertaste. Accompanied by oak and a hint of spice, you can then enjoy a creamy finish with a medium length.
