History and production of Quinta do Crasto LBV Port 2010:

Port wine is a protected designation of origin. The elegant, strong wines may only be called port wine if they come from the Portuguese Douro Valley. The extensive wine-growing areas stretch along the Douro River. These are divided into three larger regions. In the west is Baixo Corgo, in the east Duoro Superior. This includes Cima Corgo, which is also where Quinta do Crasto is located.

The climate there is particularly inhospitable. In summer the sun burns with full force, there is hardly a breath of wind and rainfall is extremely rare. The winters, on the other hand, are bitterly cold and wet. In addition, the soil is very rocky and steep. As a tourist, it seems almost unbelievable that grapes of such exquisite quality can grow in this region. But it is precisely these conditions that are essential for first-class grape quality.

The small Quinta do Crasto winery is located in the middle of the Cima Corgo region and has been family-owned since it was founded. The Quinta do Crasto LBV Port 2010 produced there is an award-winning Late Bottled Vintage Port of outstanding quality. The production method is characterized by a sense of tradition and years of experience. For example, all grapes are still pressed with the feet. Fermentation then takes place in open granite vats. By adding brandy, the fermentation is stopped and the Quinta do Crasto LBV Port 2010 can mature in selected barriques for two years.

The Quinta do Crasto LBV Port 2010 is bottled in a practical 0.375 l bottle.

Taste of the Quinta do Crasto LBV Port 2010:

The Quinta do Crasto LBV Port 2010 has a deep red color that shimmers in the backlight. It has intense fruit aromas on the nose. Mainly redcurrants, raspberries and figs, but also candied oranges, plums and cherries. Various herbal and spicy notes can be detected in the background. In addition, a delicate floral note develops over time.

The taste of the Quinta do Crasto LBV Port 2010 is extremely complex and balanced. A sweet, full-bodied fullness is evident right from the start. Intense fruit notes, of which cherries, currants and plums predominate, are accompanied by delicate spice notes and a finely tuned spiciness. Nuts, butter biscuits and marzipan round off the taste profile of the Quinta do Crasto LBV Port 2010 wonderfully. The acidity is well integrated and the tannin structure is firm. The finish is dry and spicy, with light hints of raisins and dark chocolate.
