History and production of Quinta do Crasto Finest Reserve Port:

One of the great advantages of port wine is undoubtedly the many different quality levels and taste variations. But what makes the Portuguese strong wine from the Douro Valley so attractive for connoisseurs is often difficult for beginners and port wine newbies to grasp. In addition to white and ruby ports, there are also tawny, vintage and LBV ports, all of which have their advantages and disadvantages.

Ruby and tawny ports are particularly suitable for beginners. These do not need to be decanted, are significantly cheaper than the higher qualities, usually have a lighter color and do not require lengthy bottle storage. Nevertheless, they impress with their complex, full taste and their intense fruity aroma.

The Quinta do Crasto Finest Reserve Port belongs to a very special type of port wine. It is a Reserve Ruby, i.e. a high-quality, stored Ruby Port that has been blended from grapes from different years. Through a long maturation of more than three years in barrels made of European oak, the Quinta do Crasto Finest Reserve Port acquires wonderful barrel aromas and a soft, full-bodied taste with a rich body and great tannin structure.

This port wine quality used to be called "Vintage Character Port". In 2002, however, the Port Wine Institute banned the use of this name to avoid confusion with the high-priced vintage ports.

The Quinta do Crasto Finest Reserve Port is an excellent entry-level port that is particularly suitable for people who have only recently started to get into port wine and who still appreciate high quality and excellent taste, without having to go through the time-consuming and complex bottle storage of a vintage port. The Quinta do Crasto Finest Reserve Port is suitable for immediate consumption and does not need to be decanted. This also makes it ideal for use at the bar, for example in a classic New York Sour.

Taste of the Quinta do Crasto Finest Reserve Port:

The aroma of the Quinta do Crasto Finest Reserve Port is initially summery and fruity with intense notes of currants, cherries, raspberries and plums. There are also candied oranges, figs and walnuts. In the background there are dark chocolate, pepper and cinnamon. On the palate, the Quinta do Crasto Finest Reserve Port offers a wonderful balance of wild berries, apples, peaches, honey and fine acidity, which is supported by the pronounced tannin structure. There are also hints of herbs and tobacco. The finish is long and comparatively dry, with well-integrated tannins and spicy oak.

The Quinta do Crasto Finest Reserve Port is a really successful product with an excellent price-performance ratio and a wide range of uses.
