For a long time, rum from the Dominican Republic was only drunk locally and is only slowly reaching the international market on a larger scale. Presidente Marti 23 years The rum Presidente Marti 23 years is a tribute to the legendary Cuban freedom fighter José Julián Martí Pérez, who immortalized himself in the history books with his fight against the Spanish colonial power. To produce the Presidente Marti 23 year old rum, high-quality individual distillates of different ages are matured using the Solera process known from Spanish sherry production and then blended together. The name comes from the bottom row, the solera (Spanish solera, meaning ‘lying on the ground’), because the barrels are stacked in this process. During storage, around a third of the alcohol is removed, starting from the bottom. This third is then filled up with alcohol from the barrel above, up to the top row. This is then filled up with fresh distillate. The distillates have a maturity level of around 15-23 years. Presidente Marti Gran Anejo This rum is primarily dedicated to a special person, José Julián Martí Pérez, who played a significant role in the 19th century in the struggle for Cuban independence.
