The distillery is the northernmost on the Scottish mainland and is called simply Pulteney, while it calls its whisky Old Pulteney. The adjective is not intended to refer to the whisky's great age, but rather to the fact that it matures particularly quickly. For a long time, Old Pulteney whiskies were only available from independent bottlers.
