The history of Highland Park Highland Park is a Scottish single malt whisky distillery. The distillery is located on the island of Orkney and is the northernmost distillery in Scotland. In contrast to many other whisky producers, Highland Park still works very traditionally. For example, Highland Park still works with its own floor maltings and kilns to produce its own malt.
Highland Park was founded in 1798 by the entrepreneur Magnus Euson, who initially distilled his whisky illegally on the site of the current distillery. The current distillery was finally built in 1825 by Robert Borwick and received its license the following year. Highland Park remained in the possession of the Borwick family until 1869, when it eventually passed through several other owners to "The Edrington Group", which is still responsible for the fortunes of Highland Park today.

Highland Park Single Malt Whisky Warriors Collection Ragnvald 0.7L 44.6% History and production of Highland Park Ragnvald: Whiskey was distilled on the site of today's Highland Park distillery as early as 1798. Located on the Orkney island of Kirkwal, Highland Park is considered the northernmost distillery in Scotland. Thanks to the combination of smokiness, sweet malt, full-bodiedness and a long, warming finish, Highland Park whiskies have earned a first-class reputation as all-rounders. In addition to the standard bottlings, the distillery also repeatedly draws attention to itself with its unusual special editions. The Highland Park Ragnvald is the fifth bottling from Highland Park's Warrior series, which is dedicated to great Nordic warriors and conquerors from Viking history. Earl Ragnvald of Orkney was one of the most pioneering explorers of his time. He travelled large parts of Europe and the Middle East in specially made longboats. From his travels he brought back rare herbs and spices, as well as art objects and weapons. In addition to former bourbon barrels made of American white oak, hand-selected sherry barrels made of European oak were also used to mature the Highland Park Ragnvald. The proportion of sherry barrels is around 75%. This gives the Highland Park Ragnvald sweet vanilla and caramel notes on the one hand and intense fruit aromas on the other. The smoke typical of Highland Park ensures the usual well-balanced complexity. The Highland Park Ragnvald is bottled with a strong 44.6% alcohol by volume and without the addition of colouring in an elegantly designed, shiny black bottle with silver emblems. This is delivered in a solid wooden box with burnt-in symbols and signs. This visually underlines the exclusivity and the outstanding taste. Taste of the Highland Park Ragnvald: The Highland Park Ragnvald has a deep dark amber color that shimmers glitteringly in the backlight. Intense fruit notes can be seen on the nose. Above all plums and apricots, but also raisins, candied oranges and sweet clementines. Delicate aromas of dark chocolate, vanilla and maple syrup are elegantly surrounded by soft, balanced peat smoke. Fresh herbal notes can be felt in the background. Nutmeg, coriander, cardamom, freshly cut ginger and a hint of cinnamon create a wonderful potpourri of spice aromas. The oak spice is noticeable at all times but by no means intrusive or overpowering. The Highland Park Ragnvald is extremely complex and multi-layered in the nosing. The combination of spices, dark fruits and sweet components is very well balanced. The Highland Park Ragnvald appears very voluminous and rich in taste. Dark chocolate notes are accompanied by a sweet fruitiness. Again, plums are particularly evident, but also figs and apricots. The peat smoke is very delicate and soft. It is by no means dominant, rather it adds another level to the otherwise sweet and fruity taste nuances. The Highland Park Ragnvald has a pleasant, well-dosed sweetness. Maple syrup, vanilla, toffee, butter biscuits, candied fruit and sherry are evident. In the background, there are hints of Asian spices, and the oak spice is well integrated. The Highland Park Ragnvald has a long-lasting finish with light peat smoke and a spicy, noticeably herbal note, which rounds off this whisky very nicely and makes it an outstanding taste experience.
Highland Park Single Malt Whisky Warriors Collection Thorfinn 0.7L 45.1% History and production of Highland Park Thorfinn: The Highland Park distillery has an eventful history. Whisky was distilled on the site of the current distillery as early as 1798. However, it was not entirely legal, as the smuggler Magnus Eunson initially tried to earn a pound or two by distilling illegally. After he was convicted, the first licensed distillery was built by Robert Borwick in 1825. In 1895, Highland Park was acquired and expanded by the famous James Grant. Today the Edrington Group is the owner. Still located on the Orkney island of Kirkwal, the Highland Park distillery is the northernmost whisky producer in Scotland. In addition to the standard bottlings of the 12, 15 or 18 year old single malt whisky, Highland Park regularly brings special editions and limited special editions onto the market. With the new Warrior Series, Highland Park is now paying homage to the great Nordic warriors of days gone by. The six bottlings differ primarily in the proportion of bourbon and sherry casks used. The Highland Park Thorfinn is the spearhead of the series and has the largest proportion of sherry casks during storage. Thorfinn was a great leader and skilled fighter whose handling of the spear inspired both fear and admiration. His tactical skills and strong personality helped him to bring the entire Orkney island under his control. Bottled at 45.1% alcohol by volume in a beautifully designed, shiny black bottle with gold emblems, the Highland Park Thorfinn is delivered in an elegant piano box, which further underlines the exclusivity and sophistication of this unique single malt whisky. Taste of the Highland Park Thorfinn: In the glass, the Highland Park Thorfinn presents itself in a shimmering ruby red color, which is due to the use of the best sherry casks. The nose reveals beguiling fruit aromas of ripe plums, candied oranges, apricots, figs and bananas. Light vanilla and caramel tones also ensure a pleasant sweetness of the Highland Park Thorfinn. The typical smoke encompasses the fruity-sweet notes and integrates them into a harmonious overall picture. Spicy oak wood has an additional supportive effect. In the background there are slightly herbal notes. Coriander, ginger, cardamom and nutmeg. The Highland Park Thorfinn impresses with an all-round successful aroma. The combination of fruitiness, oak spice, sweetness and delicate smoke is wonderfully balanced and complex. The taste of the Highland Park Thorfinn is incredibly mild and soft. Balanced smoke combines with sweet fruitiness. Oranges and plums are again present. There are also vanilla, toffee, dark chocolate and herbal notes. Cardamom, eucalyptus, nutmeg, coriander and freshly cut ginger come to the fore. Strong oak notes round off the flavor portfolio wonderfully. Nuts and dry smoke can also be felt in the finish. The Highland Park Thorfinn is without exaggeration one of the best whiskies on the market. It impresses with its multi-layered aroma and complex flavor nuances with plenty of depth and volume. The combination of sweet smoke, spicy oak and fresh fruitiness is unparalleled. If you have the opportunity to try this exceptional whisky, you should definitely grab it! It's worth it.
Highland Park Single Malt Whisky 14 Years Loyalty of the Wolf 1.0L 42.3% The secret of the distillery The exceptional location and the harsh climate that prevails there ensure that each Highland Park becomes a special drop. Peat generally consists of plant parts that have decomposed over thousands of years, most of which come from trees. The type of vegetation in the north of Scotland, however, differs considerably from that of a normal peat bog. Due to the strong and cold winds that prevail there, only a few trees manage to survive there and so the peat here consists primarily of semi-decomposed heather plants. If the peat is dried and then burned, different aromas are created by the released phenols that depend on the compacted plant parts. Peat bog, for example, is smokier because it contains more organic compounds from trees, whereas Islay peat contains more marine plant parts and releases aromatic compounds that are reminiscent of tar. The Orkney peat, on the other hand, brings with it its very own aromatic image. As it consists mainly of peat moss and heather, there are only slightly smoky notes here, but these come across as much more aromatic. Viking Soul Loyalty of the Wolf shows a fine balance and a contrasting aroma, reflecting the character of the wolf. The Vikings always felt an immense attraction to the wolf, and so it always played a special role in their lives. The wolf is a loyal and cooperative member of a pack, but also a fearless and determined hunter. Man and animal are particularly close in one thing: Both are out to protect their families and their kingdom by any means necessary. Taste profile. The whisky matures in old sherry-seasoned oak barrels and ex-bourbon barrels, which give it its golden brown color. Here, courage, determination and solidarity are celebrated in one bottle. Loyalty of the Wolf is a rather sweet whisky, but it still does not lack a complex play of aromas. The connoisseur is offered a fine balance between peaty and fruity whisky. In addition to the peat aroma typical of Highland Park whiskies, the taste is characterized by vanilla and baked apple.
Highland Park Viking Heart 15 Years Single Malt Whisky 0.7L 44% With the new Single Malt Scotch Whisky, the Highland Park distillery based on the Scottish island of Orkney, in collaboration with 'Wade Ceramics', is presenting its latest creation. 'Wade Ceramics' has been a well-known manufacturer of ceramic items in Great Britain since 1810. For a special bottle design, an sich has therefore teamed up with the manufacturer and created a truly exceptional ceramic bottle with strong embossing. Single malts from three different types of barrels were selected for the marriage: In addition to first-filled sherry and European and American oak barrels, refill barrels were also used. The aroma initially surprises with heather, a light smoky aroma and roasted cinnamon sticks. On the palate, a fine aroma of vanilla biscuit with subtle citrus notes, pineapple notes and intense honey notes develops and develops into a long and complex aftertaste with light peat notes.
