Sweden has a long culture when it comes to producing high-quality spirits – think of the world-famous Absolut Vodka, for example! However, many lovers still associate gin with the motherland of gin – England! Although the majority of gins are still produced in England today, there have been some qualitative improvements in other countries. For example, Germany with the Monkey 47 Black Forest Dry Gin and France with the G-Vine also have high-quality gins that are known all over the world. Since 2011, a gin from Sweden, Hernö Gin (organic), has joined the top-class competition and is causing a sensation among connoisseurs around the globe! The Hernö Gin Distillery was founded by Jon Hillgreen, who worked as a bartender in London with some friends in the late 90s. During this time he got to know and love gin and tasted over 100 different bottlings. The great variety fascinated Hillgreen and he decided to delve deeper into the subject. He therefore visited numerous distilleries in the country and exchanged ideas with the master distillers of the individual distilleries. Over time, the decision grew to set up his own gin distillery. Hillgreen had the Hernö Gin Distillery built in the classic Swedish style with white and red painted wooden beams. The distillery is located in the small town of Dala near the town of Härnösand in Ångermanland, making it the northernmost gin production facility in the world! The Hernö Old Tom Gin (ORGANIC) In England, Hillgreen also got to know Old Tom Gin. A slightly sweet gin that was mainly drunk in the 19th century. He wanted to bring this old style of gin to Sweden. Like the "normal" Hernö Gin, Old Tom Gin is made from eight different - organically grown - botanicals. The meadowsweet used is, however, dosed more heavily and the gin is then sweetened with a little honey and sugar. This creates a slightly sweet gin that still has all the typical gin aromas such as juniper, citrus and coriander! A very successful Old Tom Gin!

Since 2011, the small Hernö Gin Distillery, which can easily be described as an artisanal spirits manufacturer, has been added to the long list of Swedish spirits manufacturers. The Hernö Gin Distillery was founded by Jon Hillgreen, who moved to London in 1999, where he worked as a bartender with some friends. Over the course of his career, he tasted over a hundred gins and began to develop a love for this spirit that is so simple and yet so complex. In order to intensify his knowledge, Jon Hillgreen began to look into the scientific and technical side of gin production and visited numerous gin distilleries all over England. He quickly realized that he wanted to open his own small gin distillery at some point and finally put this plan into action. The Hernö Gin Distillery is located in the small town of Dala near the town of Härnösand in Ångermanland. This makes it the northernmost gin distillery in the world. The distillery building was built in the classic Swedish style from red and white painted wood and is just as eye-catching as the Hernö gin bottle. The Hernö Gin (ORGANIC) The Hernö Gin is a round and smooth gin produced in the style of a London Dry Gin. A total of eight different botanicals are used in the production, all of which are organically grown: juniper berries from Hungary, coriander seeds from Bulgaria, cranberries from Sweden, meadowsweet from the United Kingdom, black pepper from India, spice bark from Indonesia, vanilla from Madagascar and lemons that are still peeled by hand. Due to the careful selection and processing of the botanicals, Hernö Gin has a strong juniper character and floral and fresh notes of citrus fruits, which makes it an ideal gin to enjoy neat. Because Hernö Gin is not cool-filtered after distillation, significantly more aromas are retained than with an industrially produced gin. Organic quality that you can taste!

Hernö Sipping Gin 2019 0.5L 49.1% Hernö Distillery When the founder of the Hernö Distillery, Jon Hillgren, moved to London in 1999 and earned his money there as a bartender, his attention to the drink for which the English were so famous grew. He quickly became particularly enthusiastic about balanced and very special gins. Hillgren continued to work with gin outside of everyday bar life, too; he was interested in gin production and took part in workshops. He also took scientific studies and techniques from major manufacturers to heart. During this time, Jon acquired a lot of knowledge and the craft of gin production. When he returned to his home in northern Sweden in 2011, he founded the Hernö Distillery. With the new foundation he also earned himself the title of 'northernmost distillery in the world', as the distillery is located in the small town of Dala in the High Coast region in the far north of Sweden. Sipping Gin The idea behind the Sipping Gin series was to contribute to a stronger visitor industry as a local company. The first editions at the Hernö Open House, as well as the High Coast Whisky Festival and the exclusive first order options for the special editions, the aim was to increase the attractiveness of the gin. For the Sipping Gin No. 1.3. ex Ardbeg Cask, the gin was stored for 21 days in old whisky barrels that were previously used by Ardbeg. Master Distiller Jon Hillgren himself says that this bottling is the 'most powerful' in this series so far. When tasting, the first thing you notice is the characteristic Hernö taste, but then the influences of the barrel storage become apparent: peat, oak and smoke aromas have been transferred into the gin. Its taste is convincing with smoke aromas and a fine scent of caramel and fresh coffee. Vanilla and fresh citrus notes are present in the background and offer an unforgettable experience. It's always worth being quick with the special limited editions from the Hernö distillery, because as is often the case with Hernö, the focus was initially on sales at the High Coast Whisky Festival and at Hernö Gin's Open House in Dala. Only a few bottles are now available for public sale.

Hernö Slow Sloe Gin 0.5L 40% With our fifth masterpiece, Hernö Slow Sloe Gin 0.5L 40%, we stretched both time and creativity by allowing it a total of eight full months of maturation. The process begins with maturing our Hernö Dry Gin with fully ripe sloe berries to create our unique Hernö Sloe Gin. We then let it rest for a further four months in the same casks we use for our Hernö Juniper Cask Gin. The nose presents bright notes of sloe berries and plum. The taste unfolds resinous juniper pine and cedar aromas accompanied by creamy vanilla before the sloe berry fruit comes in a wave - first jammy and then rich with nutty almond.
