Kyro Dark Gin (Koskue Barrel Aged Gin) 0.5L 42.6% History and taste of Kyrö Dark Gin The otherwise quiet village of Isokyrö in southwest Finland has been a hive of activity since 2012. In the building of an old cheese factory, five young entrepreneurs produce high-quality spirits by hand. After extensive construction work and under the premise of using only Finnish rye malt for the products, the Kyrö distillery produces two gins as well as various rye whiskeys. The first was Kyrö Napue Gin. This extraordinary gin is based on a rye distillate, which is mixed with typical Finnish botanicals such as meadowsweet, sea buckthorn, birch leaves and cranberries. The result is a fruity-floral gin that combines the smell of a Finnish meadow in the morning dew with the powerful spiciness of rye. At the International Wine & Spirits Competition 2015, Kyrö Napue Gin took first place in the Gin & Tonic category. The Kyrö Koskue Barrel Aged Gin is the logical continuation of this legacy. The Kyrö Napue Gin is used as the basis for production and is then stored for some time in barrels made of American white oak. The taste and aroma are thus enhanced by beautiful wood, orange and caramel notes and are uniquely complex for a gin. The taste of Kyrö Dark Gin The Kyrö Koskue Dark Gin has an enormous range of different aromas to discover. Starting with fruity and floral notes, which as a whole appear very fresh and light, sweet malt and honey notes gradually emerge. The whole thing is underlined by dark wood aromas. The taste immediately reveals the origin of the Kyrö Koskue Barrel Aged Gin. Powerful rye spiciness, with a little liquorice and green pepper, with traces of cinnamon and cloves on the finish. The Kyrö Dark Gin is incredibly ripe and full-bodied in taste, with enormous complexity and power. Undoubtedly very suitable for a gin & tonic, this gin is a fabulous base for an Old Fashioned.
