Whiskey production after Prohibition

In 1934, shortly after the end of Prohibition, Heaven Hill Distillers Inc. was founded in Bardstown, Kentucky by the Shapira family. At the time, this new market was a highly speculative business, comparable to the internet market of the 1990s. The risk for Heaven Hill was enormous, as it had no brands or whiskey stocks of its own - and this in the middle of the "Great Depression".

After a short, successful production phase, the distillery was closed by the US government in 1942 to produce spirits for the war effort. After the end of the war and the entry of Earl Beam, from the Jim Beam Company, as master distiller in 1946, things went steeply uphill again. It was finally in 1957 that Evan Williams Bourbon was introduced and quickly became the most popular bourbon in the USA.

Heaven Hill Distillery today

Over the years, Heaven Hill introduced numerous successful brands such as Elijah Craig and Rittenhouse Rye and became the largest family-run spirits company in the USA. The company now has 900,000 barrels of whiskey in its halls. These are the seventh largest bourbon whiskey stocks in the world. In addition to bourbon, the company also sells other spirits such as Hpnotiq Liqueur and Pama Pomegranate Liqueur.

Heaven Hill Bourbon Whiskey

Heaven Hill Bourbon Whiskey is the company's very high-quality base bourbon, which is a delight both neat and in cocktails. Heaven Hill Bourbon Whiskey is very young and is stored for at least 4 years and a little longer. The nose reveals an intense rye aroma and sweet spiciness. On the palate it is spicy, light with a hint of wood. The aftertaste is warm and pleasant with a sugar/caramel note.

Evan Williams Bourbon Whiskey, 1 L, 43%
Evan Williams Bourbon Whiskey, 1 L, 43% About Evan Williams Bourbon Whiskey Evan Williams Bourbon Whiskey is the second best-selling whiskey in the USA and is produced in the Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown/Kentucky. Evan Williams Bourbon Whiskey came onto the market in the 1960s and is named after the whiskey pioneer Evan Williams. He was the first commercial distiller in Kentucky and registered his craft in 1783. The recipe for today's Evan Williams Bourbon Whiskey supposedly dates back to that time. Evan Williams had to stop producing bourbon whiskey after about 20 years because his neighbors felt harassed and forced him to give up. The neighbors may not have liked the production of Evan Williams' bourbon whiskey, but the members of the "Board of Trustees" liked it all the more. Evan Williams was also active there and made the sessions more bearable for all participants with his bourbon whiskey. Evan Williams Bourbon Whiskey is in line with other well-known whiskey brands from Heaven Hill, such as Elijah Craig and Henry McKenna, which are also named after bourbon whiskey pioneers, but is by far the most successful whiskey in this series. The production of Evan Williams Bourbon Whiskey Evan Williams Bourbon Whiskey is a very traditional bourbon whiskey, which is largely produced using the same complex methods as around 1783. This means that the mash is produced using the sour mash process and the subsequent fermentation uses a yeast strain that has been in the family for 7 (!) generations. The subsequent distillation takes place in copper column stills that are over 20 meters high, producing a distillate with a strength of 68 - 70% vol. The Evan Williams Bourbon Whiskey is then diluted with spring water from the region to a cask strength of 62.5% vol. and filled into charred new barrels made of American white oak to mature for 4-20 years. After the maturation process is complete, the Evan Williams Bourbon Whiskey is bottled at a strong 43% vol. The master distillers of the Evan Williams Bourbon are Parker and Craig Beam - no strangers in the bourbon whiskey industry... The taste of the Evan Williams Bourbon Whiskey In the color of strong amber yellow, Evan Williams Bourbon Whiskey offers complex, sweet caramel candy, vanilla and peppermint on the nose. Light and balanced in body, notes of spicy, sweet vanilla, toasted oak and toffee dominate. Evan Williams offers a bourbon with a good price/performance ratio and is ideal for entry into the bourbon whiskey segment. Caramel and light fruit notes paired with subtle spiciness.

Makers Mark Bourbon Whiskey, 1 L, 45%
Makers Mark Bourbon Whisky 1.0L 45% The history of Maker's Mark Bourbon Whisky Makers Mark Bourbon Whisky is a somewhat atypical Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey that is produced in Loretto, Kentucky. The first special feature of Maker's Mark is its name. Unlike other American whiskeys, the (e) in Whisk(e)y is omitted, which is why it is called Makers Mark Bourbon Whisky. More exciting than the name of Maker's Mark Bourbon Whisky, however, is its history, which began in 1780. At that time, former officer Robert Samuels went from Pennsylvania to Kentucky to settle there as a farmer and distiller. The whiskeys produced by Samuels, however, were intended more for personal use, and it was not until his grandson Taylor Williams that he began producing bourbon whiskey commercially in 1844. The family business was then successfully continued by William Isaac and Leslie and reopened after the dry years of Prohibition with a new distillery. The distillery is now run by the seventh generation and produces around 4,000 litres of whiskey a day, which is very little compared to other American bourbon whiskey distilleries. The production of Maker's Mark Bourbon Whisky Along with the name, the production method of Maker's Mark Bourbon Whisky is also unusual. A very high proportion of sour mash (around a third) is used. The mash is composed as follows: 70% corn, 16% barley malt, 14% winter wheat.Normally, rye is used instead of wheat for bourbon whiskey, but it is the wheat that gives Maker's Mark Bourbon Whisky its special flavour. Furthermore, during distillation, care is taken to only use up to around 62.5% ABV. is highly distilled so that more aromatic substances are retained in the distillate. Maker's Mark also takes particular care in choosing the barrels. These are stored in the open air for around a year before filling to extract the tannins. This process is obviously very expensive, but it is of great benefit to Maker's Mark Bourbon Whisky. One of the biggest buyers of used Maker's Mark Bourbon Whisky barrels is the Scottish malt distillery Glenmorangie, which also pays great attention to outstanding barrel quality. After storage, Maker's Mark Bourbon Whisky is bottled in distinctive bottles and then dipped head first by hand in red sealing wax. This is how the famous Red Seal Maker's Mark Bourbon Whisky is created, which is highly valued by connoisseurs all over the world. The taste of Maker's Mark Bourbon Whisky On the nose, Maker's Mark Bourbon Whisky is extremely round and balanced, with fine notes of vanilla, wood and cocoa. The body of the Maker's Mark Bourbon Whisky is round, soft and buttery with a fine sweetness and again hints of caramel and vanilla. The smooth, pure aftertaste of the Maker's Mark Bourbon Whisky ends a drinking experience that is unparalleled in this price range. Ideal for classic whiskey drinks or neat on ice.

Priced in the upper price segment for bourbon whiskey, this fine and wonderfully complex small batch whiskey is in direct competition with well-known brands such as Woodford Reserve or Knob Creek. It has only been called 1792 Ridgemont Reserve since 2004, after the Brown Forman Corporation, owner of brands such as Jack Daniels and Woodford Reserve, successfully sued against the original name "Ridgewood Reserve 1792" and the Barton Brands Distillery was forced to change the name. 1792 Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey in taste Colored in an inviting, dark amber tone, the nose immediately reveals clear tones of spicy rye and ripe fruit such as bananas, orange peel and apples, paired with caramel. Gold Bar The Original Blended Whiskey 1,0L 40%
Gold Bar The Original Blended Whiskey 1.0L 40% American Whiskey The most well-known whiskey in our latitudes is probably a bourbon from Kentucky. There are other well-known ones, such as rye whiskey or Tennessee whiskey. But lesser-known types of whiskey are also becoming more and more popular on the market. The Gold Bar Original Blended Whiskey has also managed to attract attention. This is primarily due to its very striking design in the shape of a gold bar, but once you've tried it, you'll quickly notice that its special appearance does not deceive its taste. It is produced with great attention to detail in California. Here, a mash made from three types of grain is made as the basis for the whiskey: rye, corn and barley. The proportions of the types also decrease in this order. The mash is then subjected to the traditional whisky distillation process, followed by the very special part of the production of Gold Bar Whisky. After distillation, the whisky is filled into very special oak barrels to mature. Here it is 'gilded', as it were, because the oak barrels are covered with a thin layer of gold leaf on the inside. Tasting Whisky is more in the higher price segment, which is also reflected in the taste and is in no way inferior to the elegant Gold Bar Whisky design. This American blended whiskey is a soft representative with a bouquet rich in finesse and a light body. The types of grain used are also clearly evident in the taste. Together with the beguiling oak aromas of the selected barrels and a fruity component reminiscent of ripe pear, this results in a very interesting taste that does not have to hide from any of the more well-known American whiskeys. And what is better for such a newcomer than to receive such a great and fitting review? The premium whisky won double gold at the San Francisco World Spirit Competition!

It can be found in Louisville, Kentucky, where it has been the largest independent and family-run whiskey distillery in the entire USA for years. Elijah Craig This straight bourbon gets its name 'Elijah Craig' from a special key figure in American bourbon history, Reverend Elijah Craig, who in 1789 is said to have been the first person in spirits history to put the finished distillate into burnt oak barrels for the first time and store it there for some time. The Elijah Craig Small Batch Straight Bourbon is made up of both corn and rye whiskey. There is no longer an exact age, but it is known that the blend is made up of barrels that have been stored for between eight and twelve years. In terms of taste, you can look forward to a complex, soft and warming bourbon. Oak and nutmeg initially dominate the taste, but then give way to sweet vanilla and fruit notes as well as various spices. Sweet notes are also present for a long time in the long-lasting finish.
