Rum from Mauritius
Rum from Mauritius is a rarity. There are currently three active distilleries on the island state, which is only 2,040 km² in size. But this was not always the case. In 1878, 37 distilleries on Mauritius were still actively producing rum. This was due to the boom in the sugar industry in the late 19th century, which caused the number of rum distilleries to rise sharply. However, when the sugar beet industry boomed in Europe a few decades later, the number of sugar cane plantations and thus also rum producers declined.

Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum
The Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum is not wrongly considered one of the best rums on the island. The gold-colored premium rum is made from molasses, which is a typical by-product of the sugar industry. After the molasses has been diluted with water, yeast is added. By adding water, the molasses is reduced to a sugar content that the yeast can optimally process. For this reason, the yeast starts working shortly after being added and metabolizes the sugar into alcohol and carbon dioxide. This is followed by distillation to increase the alcohol content of the mixture. This takes place in column stills. After distillation, the Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum matures in oak barrels, where it harmonizes its taste and absorbs fine aromas from the wood. It is then adjusted to an alcohol content of 40% vol. and bottled in the shapely and distinctive bottles.

On the nose, the Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum shows fine notes of banana, sugar cane and rock candy. On the palate, nuances of oak, dried fruit, tobacco and papaya can be detected. The aftertaste is of medium length and remains in the memory. A beautiful rum that is suitable for many occasions. The Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum not only goes perfectly with a light cigar but also serves as the basis for numerous excellent drinks such as the Old Cuban.

Botucal Rum Reserva Exclusiva, 0,7 L, 40%
Botucal Rum Reserva Exclusiva incl. glass + ice cube tray 0.7 liters 40% The history of Botucal Rum Botucal Rum was sold in Germany until a few years ago under the name Diplomatico Rum and most consumers are more familiar with this name. However, since a large German discounter has owned the trademark rights to a brandy called Diplomat for many years, a legal dispute lasting several years was fought over whether Diplomatico Rum could keep its name. It was not allowed to, and so the manufacturer decided to bottle Diplomatico Rum for the German market under the name Botucal Rum. The name is derived from the term Botuka, which in the local language means green hill and is the name of a growing region for the sugar cane used in Botucal Rum. This Venezuelan rum is produced and bottled by the company Destilerias Unidas (DUSA). Destilerias Unidas (DUSA) was founded in 1959 in the town of La Miel, but at that time it was still called Licorerias Unidas. Licorerias Unidas was founded under the leadership of the Canadian group Seagrams with the aim of bringing together all of the most important Venezuelan alcohol distribution companies. In 2002, the Seagram company was finally taken over by the international spirits groups Pernord Ricard and Diageo, who are currently responsible for the distribution of Botucal rum. The production of the Botucal Rum Reserva Exclusiva Of the six different Botucal bottlings, the Reserva Exclusiva is the most successful. The Botucal Reserva Exclusiva is a complex blend of different rums, all of which were distilled in copper pot stills. The individual rums then matured for at least 12 years in oak barrels before they were artfully blended and then bottled in the characteristic bottles at 40% ABV. The taste of the Botucal Rum Reserva Exclusiva The copper-colored Botucal Rum has fine aromas of cocoa, dried ginger, cloves and fruit bread on the nose and is highly recognizable. Complex aromas of caramel candies, vanilla, orange zest and banana are revealed on the palate. The medium-long aftertaste is characterized by enormous depth and finely interwoven nuances of dried fruit and chocolate.

Don Papa Rum 0,7L 40% (alte Abfüllung)
Don Papa Rum 0.7L 40% (old bottling) History of Don Papa Rum: The Philippines are not so well known in our latitudes for rum as for white beaches, coral reefs and palm trees. So it is not surprising that Tanduay rum produced in the Philippines is only known to a few connoisseurs. Tanduay is second only to Bacardi on the list of the most drunk rums in the world. Fortunately, since 2012, Don Papa Rum has become a rum in the consciousness of aficionados that not only has a unique history, but also comes from the Philippine island of Negros. The name of the rum goes back to Dionisio Magbuelas, better known as Papa Isio. He worked as a foreman on the island's sugar cane plantations and played a crucial role in the Philippine Revolution at the end of the 19th century, which sought independence from Spain. The armed resistance of the Katipunan, a freedom-seeking Filipino secret organization, against the Spanish authorities lasted from 1896 to 1898. When the revolution began, the Philippines had already been under Spanish rule for more than three centuries. With the support of the USA, but above all due to the unbroken will to fight and the desire for independence, the Filipino population was finally able to rid itself of the Spanish colonial power and was truly united for the first time in history. Don Papa was a leader of the insurgents and thus made a decisive contribution to the independence movement. Don Papa rum has been produced and distributed worldwide in his honor since 2012. However, this not only brings the history of the Philippine Revolution to the attention of rum connoisseurs. For every bottle of Don Papa rum sold, one euro is transferred to an aid fund that is used to rebuild the country after the devastating typhoon Hayan, which swept across the archipelago in 2013. Taste and production of Don Papa rum: Don Papa rum is produced in the Bago distillery from molasses, a highly viscous by-product of sugar production. A continuously operating distillation column is used for this. The finished distillate is then stored for seven years in former bourbon barrels made of American white oak. It is important to remember that the extremely hot and humid climate causes a significant part of the rum to evaporate and be lost as Angel's Share. Fortunately, the maturation process is also accelerated, which means that the Don Papa rum appears significantly older and more balanced than the storage time would initially suggest. On the nose, the Don Papa rum therefore presents full, intense notes of vanilla, caramel and honey. The pleasant sweetness is complemented by fresh orange and citrus fruitiness. The wood influence also provides complexity. The aroma leaves no doubt about the quality of the Don Papa rum and already clearly indicates that it is an excellent sipping rum for cozy hours. From the very first sip, the viscous, dark brown shimmering liquid caresses the tongue and leaves behind a full-bodied, strong and spicy taste impression. At first there are pleasantly sweet hints of vanilla, demerara sugar, maple syrup and candied oranges. These are accompanied by notes of baked apples, dark chocolate, honey, Christmas spices and oak. The finish is long and strong. The sweet fruitiness fades into the background and is replaced by a drier spiciness that has influences of tobacco and leather. Overall, Don Papa Rum is a full-bodied, highly complex sipping rum that is sure to delight and impressively proves that Filipino rum has no need to hide from its big brothers from the Caribbean.

Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum Solera 5 0,7L 40%
Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum Solera 5 0.7L 40% History and production of the Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum Solera 5: Mauritius is certainly not a typical rum country. In terms of output, it cannot compete with countries such as Cuba, Jamaica or the Dominican Republic. But in terms of taste, Mauritian rum has nothing to hide. Quite the opposite. In recent years, it has been hard to escape international awards. There are numerous reasons for this. Firstly, the climate on the small island in the Indian Ocean is ideal for growing sugar cane and maturing rum. Secondly, the use of molasses and freshly pressed sugar cane juice creates an incredibly impressive variety of flavors. One brand in particular has stood out: Gold of Mauritius. The Mauritian company Litchquor Ltd. has numerous rums in its portfolio. The top quality is marketed under the term Gold of Mauritius. Awarded the gold medal at the 2015 World Spirits Awards, Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum Solera 5 is the island's absolute flagship product. Local sugar cane molasses forms the basis for the production of Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum Solera 5. The Solera system known from Spain is used for maturation. The barrels are stacked in a pyramid shape. The fresh distillate is only filled into the top barrel. After a year of storage, the slightly matured contents are distributed between the two barrels below and replaced with new distillate. After another year, the contents of the second row are distributed to the third, and so on. This is repeated until the rum in the bottom row has achieved the desired taste profile. Over the years, the Solera process creates a complex mixture of distillates of different ages that harmoniously combines the distillery character of the young rums with the barrel aromas of the older rums. The Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum Solera 5 is, as the name suggests, a rum from the fifth row, meaning it contains qualities of up to five years, which is a long time in a hot, tropical climate. In addition, it was finished for six to eight months in port wine barrels, which increases its elegance and fullness to infinity. Tasting of the Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum Solera 5: The Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum Solera 5 has a deep dark color reminiscent of fine mahogany wood. The nose is immediately captivated by the intense bouquet bursting with power. The combination of pleasant sweetness and refreshing fruitiness is particularly noteworthy. In addition to aromas of vanilla, caramel, honey wafers and roasted nuts, hints of tropical fruits, candied oranges and apricots emerge. On the tongue, the Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum Solera 5 is wonderfully soft and wonderfully oily. It lies on the tongue like a syrup and leaves notes of molasses, vanilla ice cream, milk chocolate, baked bananas and roasted almonds. This is followed by hints of spicy oak, leather and Christmas spices that linger long into the finish. The Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum Solera 5 is a fascinatingly mild yet flavorful rum that combines sweetness, fruitiness and spice in a unique way.

Lazy Dodo Rum 0,7L 40%
Lazy Dodo Rum 0.7L 40% Lazy Dodo? A rum with the name Lazy Dodo sounds unusual for a rum at first. However, when you consider the origin of the Lazy Dodo Rum, it becomes clear why the connection is not so far-fetched. The Lazy Dodo Rum comes from the island of Mauritius. The island state in the southwest of the Indian Ocean is considered one of the best places in the world for growing sugar cane because of its humid and warm climate, as well as its topography and very fertile soil. The rums produced locally are of a correspondingly high quality and are popular and sought after by rum lovers around the world. The island's heraldic animal is the legendary dodo bird, which has been considered extinct since the end of the 17th century. The dodo was a flightless bird, around one meter tall, that fed mainly on fermented fruit, nested on the ground and was considered to be slow and comfortable. Since the dodo had no natural enemies, it was considered to be very trusting and had no escape or defense behavior. This made it easy prey for humans and introduced, feral pets. Even if it sounds a bit harsh, the dodo is considered a "prime example" of a species eradicated by humans and this rum wants to make a small contribution to remembering this. The Lazy Dodo Rum The Lazy Dodo Rum is produced on one of the most fascinating plantations in Mauritius. The property includes a botanical garden with gigantic dimensions of 37 hectares as well as seemingly endless sugar cane fields, which is why this plantation is considered one of the most important on the island. The molasses obtained from the sugar cane grown on site is naturally fermented and carefully distilled by a master distiller. The individual rums for the Lazy Dodo Rum are then aged for up to 12 years in various types of barrels. In addition to French oak barrels, new barrels made of American oak, former bourbon whiskey barrels and some barrels that previously contained sugar syrup are used. This gives the Lazy Dodo Rum a very special taste. The amber-colored rum impresses on the nose and palate with fresh and exotic notes. On the palate, in addition to a good structure, it shows additional nuances of caramel, vanilla and oak. The Lazy Dodo is suitable for drinking neat (on ice) as well as in cocktails.

Turquoise Bay Amber Rum, 0,7L 40%
Turquoise Bay Amber Rum 0.7L 40% The origin: Mauritius is one of the countries in the rum world that has been attracting attention for some time with its extravagant and tasty spirits. This is mainly due to the numerous sources of flavor that the island has to offer and the pleasant climatic conditions that prevail there. The latter is of great importance, for example, for the production of sugar cane, the basic ingredient of every rum. In addition, this is a rum that is distilled from molasses in its country of origin, Mauritius, and then bottled in France. The principles: The "Turquoise Bay Amber Rum" is a delicious blend in which only distillates selected by the blender himself were used. The word "amber" stands for amber and this is precisely the color that the rum represents in full, which is how it got its name. The sugar cane grown on the island provided the molasses needed for the rum. The yeast added initiates the fermentation process and is then distilled. The rum was then able to store for some time in fine oak barrels and develop its full aromas. The rather dark-looking "Turquoise Bay Amber Rum" was produced without any added artificial coloring, which is something the company also attaches great importance to. The rum is available in a bottle with a turquoise label that immediately reminds us of the turquoise blue water, the wide beaches and the numerous bays. The rum in the glass: If you evaluate the numerous aromas and the taste in general, the "Turquoise Bay Amber Rum" seduces with its fruity and sweet side, which comes in a perfect balance. The "Turquoise Bay Amber Rum" is very aromatic, but at the same time elegant and pleasant. This is also due to the storage, which has made the rum pleasantly smooth and gives it soft characteristics. Several golden-colored rums have harmonized with each other and conjured up a perfectly balanced blend. The imaginative rum has a moderate alcohol content of 40%. This means that it can easily be enjoyed neat or on ice. But it is almost better for mixing cocktails and long drinks.

Mauritius Rom Club White Rum 0,7L 40%
Mauritius Rom Club White Rum 0.7L 40% Mauritius Rom by Litchquor LTD With the new brand Mauritius Rom Club, four new products have been introduced to the market, which are intended to reflect the variety and abundance of flavors. Behind this new brand is the Frenchman Frédéric Bestel and his company Litchquor Ltd. Litchquor is made up of two words 'lychee' and 'liquor'. This is probably based on Bestel's college days, because even then he is said to have received a lot of recognition for his lychee liqueur. With his takeover, Frederic Bestel is continuing the traditions of the 200-year-old family business. He has been successful with his own brand in Mauritius since 2012. Sugar cane is the most widely grown product on the island and so it goes without saying that this also serves as the basis for the Mauritius Rom Club White. In terms of taste, he has based his series on the 'Spice Route', which has served as a source of a wide variety of flavors for many years. Rom Club White Rum The white rum in this series was matured in stainless steel barrels after distillation to give the flavors enough time to develop their full aromas. This storage also gives the white rum its pleasant lightness. It is light but flavorful. Very pleasant on the nose, with subtle notes of vanilla, tropical coconut and spicy ginger. Generally a very balanced rum, which is also reflected in the aftertaste

Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum Solera 8 0.7L 40% Litchquor Distillery The Litchquor Distillery is a rum distillery on the beautiful island of Mauritius. The volcanic subsoil provides optimal conditions for growing sugar cane. For many years, long before the tourism boom, this was an important economic factor for the island. Once 90% of the island was used as cultivation area, today it is just under 40%. However, you can still find a variety of different types of sugar cane here. They all have their own character and so it is not surprising that Mauritius has become an increasingly popular rum region in recent years. Frederic Bestel is behind the wonderful rum brand 'Litchquor Distillery', which is responsible for the Gold of Mauritius rum. After his family also settled on the island, the Bestel family also devoted themselves to growing sugar cane and their second major business, lychee cultivation. As was common at the time, the first moonshine was produced here. Frederic's first recipe consisted of both ingredients that the family grew: sugar cane and lychees. He then used this origin as the basis for his later company name. Litchquor is made up of lychee and liquor. Dark Rum Solera 8 The Dark Rum Solera has a strong body. On the nose there are initially aromas of roasted nuts, dark chocolate and vanilla. The complex taste then develops further on the palate. Malt, oak and a pleasant sweetness blend together to form a soft and full-bodied finish. It reveals a completely new experience of the classic gold from Mauritius thanks to its development over a long 8 years.

The company's goal is to create an affordable rum that is ideal to enjoy neat. The result is Marauda Steelpan Premium Rum, a blend of rums from different origins, all made in the traditional way from high-quality molasses - a byproduct of sugar production from sugar cane. These rums come from Trinidad, Jamaica and Guyana, three countries with a long tradition of rum production, each with a unique style. The journey begins in Trinidad, where a rum is aged for three years and serves as a base to create the perfect harmony. From there we travel to Guyana to add another three-year-old rum from the still Demerara distillery process. This gives the blend a robust and distinctive depth. Finally, our journey takes us to Jamaica, where a heavy pot still rum also matures for three years and gives the blend its distinctive, "funky" note. Each rum in the Steelpan blend is distilled and matured using traditional methods, without the addition of additives or coloring. All of these rums mature in 53-gallon bourbon barrels made from American white oak and used only once for bourbon whiskey. The result is a rum of incomparable quality and sophistication that delights the senses and celebrates the true art of distilling. On the palate, this Marauda Steelpan Premium Rum 0.7L 40% presents itself with fine notes of exotic dried fruits, honey, tobacco and vanilla. A potpourri of various fruits is enveloped in a gentle sweetness. The finish is surprisingly long and complex for a rum in this price range, with subtle hints of vanilla and oak wood.
