Georgia Moon Moonshine Whiskey

What is Georgia Moon Moonshine Whiskey?

Since the DMAX series “Moonshiners – The Moonshiners of Virginia”, the word “moonshine” has been a common term in Germany. Moonshine whiskey is illegally distilled whiskey that is mainly distilled under cover of night. The producers of moonshine, the so-called moonshiners, are constantly in danger of being discovered, as such offenses are of course strictly pursued by customs. The profit that moonshiners can make, supposedly up to $100,000 per season, entices many to try it anyway.

Illegal distillates no longer play a role in Germany and you only come across them now and then as souvenirs from eastern countries. In the USA, however, things are different, as moonshine enjoys a good reputation there and is therefore relatively popular. The moonshine whiskey that is traded under the table there is usually bottled in old jam jars or similar containers and sold under the table through middlemen. If you are caught with large quantities of moonshine, you face hefty fines, which of course puts some buyers off. The American Heaven Hill Distillery also recognised this problem, or let's say gap in the market, and brought a type of moonshine whiskey onto the market under the name "Georgia Moon Moonshine Whiskey".

The production of Georgia Moon Moonshine Whiskey

As with good bourbon whiskey, the basis for Georgia Moon Moonshine Whiskey is corn and other grains. This is processed like bourbon whiskey, but cannot bear this name because Georgia Moon Moonshine Whiskey does not reach the minimum storage time required in oak barrels. As is usual for this type of moonshine spirits, the Georgia Moon Moonshine Whiskey is bottled just a few days after distillation. In other words, the Georgia Moon Moonshine Whiskey is a "new make bourbon whiskey".

The taste of the Georgia Moon Moonshine Whiskey

The taste of the Georgia Moon Moonshine Whiskey is of course not comparable to that of stored bourbon whiskey. Nevertheless, the typical corn note can be smelled and tasted well in the Georgia Moon Moonshine Whiskey. The rest of the taste is slightly sweet and spirituous. You can't really speak of a aftertaste with the Georgia Moon Moonshine Whiskey, but it does leave a warming feeling behind. Whether as a party gag or as a highlight at the home bar - the Georgia Moon Moonshine Whiskey is definitely a good investment.
