Distillerie Domaine de Courcelles
The distillery was founded on the island of Grande Terre (Guadeloupe) in the early 1930s and was owned by Amédée Huygues Despointes.
From 1964 onwards, the Domaine de Courcelles distillery produced exclusively molasses rum. His equipment went to the Sainte Marthe distillery, which was also owned by him. Excellent rum barrels were stored there until the Domaine de Courcelles distillery was finally closed. To crown the history of the Courcelles distillery, a special rum was once again produced. The Courcelles 1972 was produced in the same year it closed, but was then allowed to store in French oak barrels for almost 40 years and thus develop a rich bouquet, as it was only bottled in 2014.
Many different aromas can be seen on the nose. Wood, plum, flambéed bananas and cinnamon, to name just a few. Other notes are added on the palate. These are primarily menthol notes and fine sweet, fruity aromas of strawberries and mangos. The finish of the vintage rum is extremely long and complex, as it has already proven before.
