The history of Botucal Rum
Botucal Rum was sold in Germany until a few years ago under the name Diplomatico Rum and most consumers are more familiar with this name. However, since a large German discounter has owned the trademark rights to a brandy called Diplomat for many years, a legal dispute lasting several years was fought over whether Diplomatico Rum could keep its name. It was not allowed to, and so the manufacturer decided to bottle Diplomatico Rum for the German market under the name Botucal Rum.

The name is derived from the term Botuka, which in the local language means green hill and is the name of a growing region for the sugar cane used in Botucal Rum.

This Venezuelan rum is produced and bottled by the company Destilerias Unidas (DUSA). Destilerias Unidas (DUSA) was founded in 1959 in the town of La Miel, but at that time it was still called Licorerias Unidas. Licorerias Unidas was founded under the leadership of the Canadian group Seagrams with the aim of bringing together all of the most important Venezuelan alcohol distribution companies. In 2002, the Seagram company was finally taken over by the international spirits groups Pernord Ricard and Diageo, who are currently responsible for the distribution of Botucal rum.

The production of the Botucal Rum Reserva Exclusiva
Of the six different Botucal bottlings, the Reserva Exclusiva is the most successful. The Botucal Reserva Exclusiva is a complex blend of different rums, all of which were distilled in copper pot stills. The individual rums then matured for at least 12 years in oak barrels before they were artfully blended and then bottled in the characteristic bottles at 40% ABV.

The taste of the Botucal Rum Reserva Exclusiva

The copper-colored Botucal Rum has fine aromas of cocoa, dried ginger, cloves and fruit bread on the nose and is highly recognizable. Complex aromas of caramel candies, vanilla, orange zest and banana are revealed on the palate. The medium-long aftertaste is characterized by enormous depth and finely interwoven nuances of dried fruit and chocolate.

Dos Maderas Rum PX 5 + 5, 0,7 Liter, 40%
Dos Maderas Rum PX 5 + 5 years 0.7L 40% The history and production of Dos Maderas Rum PX 5 + 5 The Dos Maderas Rum PX 5 + 5 is no ordinary rum. The story of the Dos Maderas Rum PX 5 + 5 begins in the Caribbean. There, the individual rums for the Dos Maderas Rum PX 5 + 5 are distilled from the best sugar cane in Guyana and Barbados. Guyana and Barbados represent a centuries-old rum tradition. While Guyana is known for very powerful, intense rums, the rums from Barbados are characterized by their fine, aromatic nuances. After the individual rums for the Dos Maderas Rum PX 5 + 5 have been blended by master hands, they mature for at least five years in the tropical temperatures of the Caribbean. Barrels made of American white oak are used for storage; they are particularly popular because of their mild aroma. After this initial storage period, the Dos Maderas Rum PX 5 + 5 is imported by Williams & Humbert to Jerez in Andalusia, Spain. Here the Dos Maderas Rum PX 5 + 5 is matured for a further three years in barrels that once contained the best sherry. The Dos Maderas Rum PX 5 + 5 is finished for two years in former Pedro Ximinez (PX) sherry barrels, the high-quality contents of which remained in the barrel for over 20 years. This unusual and very exclusive maturation process gives the Dos Maderas Rum PX 5 + 5 its unusual and very fine aroma! The taste of the Dos Maderas Rum PX 5 + 5 The unusual storage of the Dos Maderas Rum PX 5 + 5 is naturally also reflected in the taste. The Dos Maderas Rum PX 5 + 5 has intense dried fruit aromas on the nose, such as peach, dates and figs. On the palate, the Dos Maderas Rum PX 5 + 5 has subtle notes of vanilla, nuts, orange peel and a distinct sweetness. The aftertaste of the Dos Maderas Rum PX 5 + 5 is very fine, elegant and immensely long. A great rum!

Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum, 0,7 Liter 40%
Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum, 0.7 liters 40% Rum from Mauritius Rum from Mauritius is a rarity. There are currently three active distilleries on the island state, which is only 2,040 km² in size. But this was not always the case. In 1878, 37 distilleries on Mauritius were still actively producing rum. This was due to the boom in the sugar industry in the late 19th century, which caused the number of rum distilleries to rise sharply. However, when the sugar beet industry boomed in Europe a few decades later, the number of sugar cane plantations and thus also rum producers declined. Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum The Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum is not wrongly considered one of the best rums on the island. The gold-colored premium rum is made from molasses, which is a typical by-product of the sugar industry. After the molasses has been diluted with water, yeast is added. By adding water, the molasses is reduced to a sugar content that the yeast can optimally process. For this reason, the yeast starts working shortly after being added and metabolizes the sugar into alcohol and carbon dioxide. This is followed by distillation to increase the alcohol content of the mixture. This takes place in column stills. After distillation, the Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum matures in oak barrels, where it harmonizes its taste and absorbs fine aromas from the wood. It is then adjusted to an alcohol content of 40% vol. and bottled in the shapely and distinctive bottles. On the nose, the Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum shows fine notes of banana, sugar cane and rock candy. On the palate, nuances of oak, dried fruit, tobacco and papaya can be detected. The aftertaste is of medium length and remains in the memory. A beautiful rum that is suitable for many occasions. The Gold of Mauritius Dark Rum not only goes perfectly with a light cigar but also serves as the basis for numerous excellent drinks such as the Old Cuban.

Don Papa Rum 0,7L 40% (alte Abfüllung)
Don Papa Rum 0.7L 40% (old bottling) History of Don Papa Rum: The Philippines are not so well known in our latitudes for rum as for white beaches, coral reefs and palm trees. So it is not surprising that Tanduay rum produced in the Philippines is only known to a few connoisseurs. Tanduay is second only to Bacardi on the list of the most drunk rums in the world. Fortunately, since 2012, Don Papa Rum has become a rum in the consciousness of aficionados that not only has a unique history, but also comes from the Philippine island of Negros. The name of the rum goes back to Dionisio Magbuelas, better known as Papa Isio. He worked as a foreman on the island's sugar cane plantations and played a crucial role in the Philippine Revolution at the end of the 19th century, which sought independence from Spain. The armed resistance of the Katipunan, a freedom-seeking Filipino secret organization, against the Spanish authorities lasted from 1896 to 1898. When the revolution began, the Philippines had already been under Spanish rule for more than three centuries. With the support of the USA, but above all due to the unbroken will to fight and the desire for independence, the Filipino population was finally able to rid itself of the Spanish colonial power and was truly united for the first time in history. Don Papa was a leader of the insurgents and thus made a decisive contribution to the independence movement. Don Papa rum has been produced and distributed worldwide in his honor since 2012. However, this not only brings the history of the Philippine Revolution to the attention of rum connoisseurs. For every bottle of Don Papa rum sold, one euro is transferred to an aid fund that is used to rebuild the country after the devastating typhoon Hayan, which swept across the archipelago in 2013. Taste and production of Don Papa rum: Don Papa rum is produced in the Bago distillery from molasses, a highly viscous by-product of sugar production. A continuously operating distillation column is used for this. The finished distillate is then stored for seven years in former bourbon barrels made of American white oak. It is important to remember that the extremely hot and humid climate causes a significant part of the rum to evaporate and be lost as Angel's Share. Fortunately, the maturation process is also accelerated, which means that the Don Papa rum appears significantly older and more balanced than the storage time would initially suggest. On the nose, the Don Papa rum therefore presents full, intense notes of vanilla, caramel and honey. The pleasant sweetness is complemented by fresh orange and citrus fruitiness. The wood influence also provides complexity. The aroma leaves no doubt about the quality of the Don Papa rum and already clearly indicates that it is an excellent sipping rum for cozy hours. From the very first sip, the viscous, dark brown shimmering liquid caresses the tongue and leaves behind a full-bodied, strong and spicy taste impression. At first there are pleasantly sweet hints of vanilla, demerara sugar, maple syrup and candied oranges. These are accompanied by notes of baked apples, dark chocolate, honey, Christmas spices and oak. The finish is long and strong. The sweet fruitiness fades into the background and is replaced by a drier spiciness that has influences of tobacco and leather. Overall, Don Papa Rum is a full-bodied, highly complex sipping rum that is sure to delight and impressively proves that Filipino rum has no need to hide from its big brothers from the Caribbean.
