About the history of the Wenneker distillery and Genever The Wenneker distillery was founded in 1693, making it one of the oldest family-run businesses in the Netherlands. While Wenneker was still producing brandy in the early years, the company specialized in the production of Genever in the decades and centuries that followed. The production of Genever, sometimes also written Jenever, has a long tradition in the Netherlands. The name of Genever is derived from the French ("genévrier" or "genièvre"), which means juniper. Juniper is probably the most important ingredient in Genever and is also primarily responsible for its taste. Originally developed for medicinal purposes, the Dutch increasingly developed a taste for Genever and it established itself as a kind of popular drink. The English also appreciated the taste of a good Genever and brought it back to their homeland. The word Genever was shortened to Gin, which was much easier for the British to pronounce, and the recipe was adapted. The gin as we know it today is a direct result of Genever, which also explains why Wenneker is an excellent gin maker alongside Genever. The Wenneker distillery has therefore recently started offering various gins that sensibly expand the traditional distillery's portfolio and reflect current trends in the spirits industry. The Wenneker Dry Gin The Wenneker Dry Gin is a very classic gin and is based on an old family recipe that is several centuries old. Unlike many other manufacturers, Wenneker does not use special botanicals or numerous cocktail recipes, but simply recommends enjoying the Wenneker Dry Gin neat or "on the rocks". A clear statement that the focus is solely on the quality of the gin and not on marketing slogans. On the nose and palate, the Wenneker Dry Gin has strong juniper notes and typical citrus aromas. A simple and ingenious gin that simply makes you want another glass. Clearly recommended!
Michlers Genuine Gin 0.7L 44% Classic style The Albert Michler distillery is mainly known for its expressive rums, but it is probably in every British distillery's blood to devote itself to the country's most famous spirit, gin. In the spirit of founder Albert Michler, the decision was made to distill a unique gin for people looking for new taste experiences. To develop it, the distillery joined forces with German master distiller Frank Braun, and production was also relocated to Germany, making it in the immediate vicinity of Michler's birthplace. In the 19th century, Michler lived and worked in Silesia, which at the time was partly part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and is now Poland. Lots of juniper The distillation of this spirit is quite unique, as it is divided into seven steps and a total of three distillation units, which are responsible for the distinctive taste. For the maceration, the heart of gin production, up to 15 spices and herbs are used, which are largely secret. Nevertheless, some are well known, such as the classic juniper, but then it quickly becomes exotic, as the other ingredients include apple peel, wormwood, rosemary, thyme, citrus fruits and a fruit similar to the currant. All botanicals are placed in the clear raw spirit so that the alcohol bursts the cell walls of the plants and they release their essential oils and aromas. This is how the alcohol is flavored and the gin is created. As more juniper is added during production than in other gins, the distillate tends to be slightly cloudy because there are more essential oils in the spirit, but this has no effect on the taste. Many nuances A variety of different aromas can be detected on the tongue, the main component being juniper. However, it is surrounded by nuances of spices and flowers reminiscent of forest and nature, which are rounded off by fruity, exotic aromas. This results in an overall very soft and round taste.
Cape Fynbos Small Batch Gin 0.5L 45% The spirit of the Cape The restaurateur and master distiller Helmut Wilderer, who comes from Baden, emigrated to South Africa in 1994 to start his fruit brandies. There he was the first to receive a license to distill grappa and eau de vie and since then has received several awards every year for handmade pomace and fruit brandies. Creativity and quality are Wilderer's top priorities. So he naturally finds enough incentives in the Cape region, which is one of the world's largest fruit growing areas, to meet his demands. The brandies are triple distilled in a state-of-the-art facility with a capacity of over 700 liters. Produced in harmony with nature Wilderer sometimes uses unique wild herbs for his spirits that are completely unknown to us in Europe. These include, for example, 'Wild Dagga' (also called wild cannabis, THC free!), 'Buchu', a mint plant, 'Honeybush', and 'Devil's Claw'. The Cape Fynbos Gin contains a total of 33 botanicals from the Fynbos region, which is known worldwide as one of the most species-rich botanical regions. They are all grown sustainably and harvested by hand. Vineyards are usually found next to the Fynbos region, so it is only logical that the base alcohol of this gin is based on white grapes. In order to achieve a perfect bond between the aromas, the plants, herbs and spices are macerated before distillation. The taste A well-rounded taste in the mouth that fills you with pleasant warmth. Despite its alcohol content of 45% vol., the gin is still rather mild. You can taste deep, complex herbal aromas and a hint of orange zest. The mixture of the various herbs makes the Cape Fynbos Gin almost indescribable and you should just get an idea of these extraordinary aromas for yourself. The best way to enjoy this fine brandy is of course neat and on ice, but it can also be mixed well with a tonic or something else.
Gustav Metsä Gin 0.5L 43.2% Lignell& Piispanen The distillery is now in its sixth generation and is proud to create the finest quality-tested spirits from Arctic botanicals. The Nordic regions with their fascinating botanicals are always an inspiration for the company. With a company history spanning more than 165 years, we can proudly say that this has always been successful. To this day, it is the third oldest company still in operation in Finland! When Gustav Ranin founded the company in 1852, he imported and sold high-quality whiskeys and cognacs. The oldest products still owned by the family and still available are the Savon Wiina from 1869, the Great Cognac from 1872 and the Honeycomb from 1882. Today the company is focused in a different direction and is responsible for producing the finest spirits itself. With its products, the distillery wants to bring a small piece of Finland to the world. Great importance is attached to transparency and sustainable development. Over the years the company has learned to concentrate on the essentials, on special aromas in which the origin can be recognized. Metsä Gin The name comes from the Finnish word 'Metsä', which means 'forest' in English. The Finnish Gustav Metsä Gin is a real 'forest gin'. Only herbs, berries and spices from the Nordic forests are used in its production. Spruce shoots, rowan berries and birch leaves, to name just a few of the botanicals, are the main ingredients in this Nordic gin, along with pronounced juniper aromas. The floral and spicy notes first appear on the nose. Its full complexity then becomes apparent on the palate. The aromas already identified are joined by other herbs, cardamom and a refreshing note of citrus fruits.
