History and production of AE Dor Cognac Legend:

The founder of the traditional house AE Dor, famous for its outstanding cognac, Amédée-Edouard Dor, came from a long-established family that had been active in the wine-growing and cognac sectors for centuries. Thanks to his keen instinct and great expertise, Amédée-Edouard was able to save the family's legacy through difficult times and into modern times.

In the 19th century, the wine-growing regions of France fell victim to a series of devastating disasters. Around 1845, mildew, native to North America, came to Europe. The ascomycete raged uncontrollably and destroyed a large part of the harvest. Just as many vines had been replaced by American, mildew-resistant varieties, the voracious phylloxera was introduced. This wine pest spread like wildfire and affected almost all French wine regions. The phenomenon, known as the phylloxera invasion, destroyed over 86% of the cultivated areas and thus the livelihoods of many winegrowers.

The Dor family also had to overcome many setbacks during this time. Fortunately, Amédée-Edouard Dor had started early on to buy up old cognacs from the best locations in the Charente and let them mature in his own cellar vault. A true empire has grown out of this idea. Today, the Dor house has the largest collection of old cognacs in the entire Charente, with distillates dating back to 1805.

AE Dor regularly releases exclusive, decades-old cognacs from its almost inexhaustible stock. A very special creation is the AE Dor Cognac Legend. This assemblage of up to 30-year-old distillates from the Champagne and Borderies regions is unparalleled in terms of harmony and complexity. The elaborately designed glass bottle also looks extremely classy and visually underlines the status of this exceptional cognac.

Tasting the AE Dor Cognac Legend:

The AE Dor Cognac Legend has a deep dark, shimmering red-brown color and exudes a beguiling bouquet as soon as it is poured. In addition to intense aromas of vanilla, dried apricots, candied oranges and plums, the basic character is characterized by spicy oak. In addition, hints of leather, tobacco and coffee provide incomparable complexity and depth.

On the tongue, the AE Dor Cognac Legend is extremely strong and full-bodied. Ripe notes of oak, leather, leaves and roasted nuts are gently surrounded by sweet vanilla, raisins and dates. The fine tannin structure and the excellent "rancio" also ensure a large volume and a full-bodied finish.

The AE Dor Cognac Legend is rightly considered an exceptional cognac. The noble assemblage delights with a wealth of different aromas and a rich, extremely rare maturity.

A.E. Dor Cognac Pur Cru, 0,5 L, 40%
AE Dor Cognac Pur Cru 0.5L 40% The history of AE Dor cognac Viteus vitifoliae, better known as phylloxera, is a pest that was first discovered in French vineyards in 1863. Well-known researchers such as Louis Pasteur tried to put a stop to phylloxera, but they only succeeded when it was already too late. Phylloxera infected almost every vineyard in France and destroyed almost the entire vineyard area in the country. Later, local vines were planted with rootstocks from America, making them resistant to the pests. Although wine could be grown again from then on, it and the cognac distilled from it tasted different than before the phylloxera catastrophe. As a result, demand for pre-phylloxera cognacs increased enormously and became a scarce commodity. Fortunately, the wealthy Amédée-Edouard DOR recognized this early on and began to collect the best qualities of the "old" Cognacs. He concentrated in particular on spirits from the "Grande Champagne", which were already considered exceptionally good at the time. Over the years, Amédée-Edouard DOR was able to secure large quantities of pre-phylloxera Cognacs, which his employees then stored in oak barrels for up to 70 years. When the spirits had finally reached the perfect maturity, they were transferred to glass balloons (Demi-Johns) and sealed with wax. The Demi-Johns are stored in the "Paradise", a special maturing cellar, of the AE Dor house and some are still bottled today for the best spirits from AE Dor.
